Do you know a military veteran or active-duty military service member home on leave you’d like to see honored in your community this summer?
The Ziff Law Firm is the proud sponsor of the popular Veteran of the Game Program that will honor military veterans and active-duty military service members home on leave this summer during baseball games at two Twin Tiers ballparks – at Dunn Field in Elmira during Elmira Pioneers games, and at Mansfield University’s Shaute Field during Mansfield Destroyers games.
Veterans selected for the recognition receive six free tickets to the game in which they will be honored. The veterans and their families and friends are seated in special places, and during the games, the public-address announcers introduce the honored veteran and read a short biography of their military service. The veteran can stand or remain seated during the recognition.
You can nominate a veteran by clicking here or sending an email to program coordinator Annette Viselli Thorne at athorne@zifflaw.com. You can also learn more about the two teams by clicking on the links above in the second paragraph.
“We are very excited to find a second summer home for our Veteran of the Game program,” said Jim Reed, Ziff Law Firm managing partner. “It has been a popular attraction with hockey and baseball fans, so we are thrilled that the Destroyers have provided us with the perfect opportunity to continue growing in another region of the Twin Tiers.”
The Destroyers, in the New York Collegiate Baseball League, will play their home games at Mansfield University’s Joseph Shaute Field. Home games will start at 5:35 p.m. because the field does not have lights. The Destroyers’ first home game is June 6 against the Hornell Dodgers.
The Pioneers play in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL). Opening night at Dunn Field is May 31, with the Pioneers hosting the Geneva Red Wings at 7:05 p.m.
“I am honored to once again have the opportunity to recognize our veterans and active-duty military personnel,” said program coordinator Annette Viselli Thorne of the Ziff Law Firm. “I look forward to seeing some of our past-recognized veterans as well as meeting new veterans. The military people who are honored and their families and friends say it is an evening they will remember forever, and we hope to create many more memories this summer in Elmira and Mansfield.”
Veterans are also recognized during home games for two professional hockey teams in the fall and winter months, the Elmira Enforcers at First Arena and the Binghamton Devils at Broome County Arena.
